• First off, the plugin is working great! When I use a ‘full-size’ image that is 1000px in width on a page then ‘large’ and ‘medium’ sizes are displayed on lower resolution pages, as desired.

The problem is that, on the site I’m using this on, I want images to start out small and get even smaller. I configured WordPress’ sizes for large to be 300px, medium to 150px and thumbnail to be 75px. I put a ‘large’ size image (really around 300×300) and was hoping that on a phone it’d use the ‘medium’ or even ‘thumbnail’ sizes. I tried adjusting the resolutions in Adaptive Image’s settings page to lower values to no effect.

Am I doing something wrong? Should this work?

    Hello, my friend,

First of all, I did take a quick look at your website and it seems that the Adaptive Images plugin is working as expected.

I believe the issue you are describing has to do with the fact that you are already using too small images, so the plugin decides that it does not need to resize them at all, because they already are small enough!

I see that, in your plugin settings you have set the resolutions property to 1024, 640, 480. So, for example, if a device of 360 pixels width accesses an image of 300 pixels width, then the plugin will check it resolutions property to see which one is closest to the device size, and it will pick the 480 pixels, but this width is already bigger than the original image, so the original image will not need to be resized at all and will be served as it is.

    Hope this makes some sense!

So, what you could do is set some even lower resolutions sizes in the plugin settings page. But, in all honesty, I do not thing this is really worth it, if all your images are already that small!

    Cheers,
    Takis

    Totally scratch that last response!

Delete it, and this one if you want… I’ll get this figured out and respond again but basically, for some reason my phone is getting sent the original 1000px wide image!

No worries, perhaps you can point me to that exact image, so I can check if there is something particularly unusual about it?

It’s the three images – one on each of the main pages. I just resized them all and uploaded new versions – maximum resolutions of 640×480. I deleted the Adaptive Images cache and the existing images from the site via FTP, also.

The one on the main page, for example: https://tutorsaurusrex.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/home.png should be 443×480 but my phone is still getting a 1000px version – as far as I can tell from looking at it as it takes up 3/4 of the screen.

I don’t know if there is some caching or CDN I don’t know about involved but I’m about to restart the web app and see if that makes a difference.

It seems that you are using a thumbnail size there. For instance, I see this picture https://tutorsaurusrex.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/home-277×300.png instead of https://tutorsaurusrex.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/home.png. Has this been done intentionally?

However, I do not see a problem in any case!
