I’m not sure what on earth you’re talking about but you do not need to pay for anything to use Aesop Story Engine.

Nick, to get any real use out of the plugin one needs to pay. It’s the same malarky as pulled by the Zedity plugin and others.

For the plugin to work you need to buy a premium theme. That makes it a premium plugin.

No, you do not need a premium theme in order to use Aesop Story Engine. You are mistaken.

@mythusmage The plugin isn’t breaking any rules of the repository. I’m part of the review theme that approves / rejects plugins and personally approved this plugin. Every line of code was reviewed an the plugin was thoroughly tested to confirm it complies with standards and rules.

@mythusmage – Honestly, I can’t figure out what you are talking about. I have tested Aesop on a range of themes from self developed, to free, to the “OEM” WordPress themes and the plugin is very functional without spending a dime.

@mythusmage – I’m not sure if you’re just trolling everyone right now. You’re either a simpleton or pretending to be a simpleton. I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt and going with the latter.

Since you already have a terrible attitude, deep sense of entitlement, propensity for breaching decorum, are overtly obtuse on technical matters and incredibly spiteful, may I suggest another profession or hobby where you don’t have to rely on the contribution of others?

BTW: Where’s your contribution to the community that allows you to galavant on your high horse, doling out 1 star judgments based on false premises?

Other plugins let you use them without needing to buy something else. Any plugin that requires a purchase, even of another item, to be used is not free.

The plugin does not require a premium theme to function.

Yes, Aesop Story Engine looks really nice on their premium themes, but all the base functionality is free.

Just since seeing this post I spun up a new WordPress 4.0 site using the default Twenty Fourteen theme and installed Aesop Story Engine. Works great without my paying for the plugin, without my paying someone to develop the plugin for me, and without my spending the probably dozens of hours it would take me to make the plugin myself.

In fact I’m planning on installing it on a site for my wife later this week. I’ll probably build my own theme for it, but in no way does Nick owe me a free premium theme after he and other contributors chose to basically donate a huge chunk of time to give me (and you) something for free.

If you donate time or money to a charity you would be pretty offended if they then expected you to give the rest of your time and money to them because you showed interest. It’d be your choice whether to support that charity further, and it’s your choice whether to support Aesop Story Engine further by purchasing premium themes and addons.

    David, thanks for this.

    David,

What about all the stuff you need to add to certain templates in order to get ASE to work.
