When you say ‘was working’, please explain what changed, what exact steps reproduce that error, and copy/paste the exact error message.
That (generally) means the plugin couldn’t verify file permissions for whatever image you were trying to optimize.

    Thanks for the prompt response!

I’ve been trying to figure out what changed. I’m not sure if it was related to the last WordPress update or some of my plugin updates. I didn’t catch the error until I tried to add some new posts.

The site this is being used on is an Amazon Associates store. It uses a plugin called “wpZoneBuilder” (https://www.wpzonbuilder.com/) to generate posts from Amazon ASIN’s (product IDs).

I discovered the error the last time I tried adding some products using wpZonBuilder. As soon as the product posts were generated, I got the error at the top of my admin screen. The posts themselves were generated fine and everything else works as expected.

I tried adding a new post with an image (manually without using wpZonBuilder) and everything seemed to work fine. But, if I try to add a post using the wpZonBuilder plugin, then I get the error.

As I said, it worked with the wpZonBuilder plugin before and this plugin was not recently updated, so I’m not sure what is causing this.

Can you confirm that the error in your first post is the exact error you see? I only ask because the error message makes it sound like the optimizer is trying to check file permissions on itself, and that would be really really strange, unless the error message is missing some information. If you can, check your server/apache error logs for more information also.

Did you ever figure this out, or find the culprit?
