After deactivating a plugin, the name of the plugin is still part of the plugin list, which makes perfect sense.

When you then push “delete”, however, the code files themselves are deleted, which is a little more questionable. Luckily, I was just experimenting with a 10 line plugin, nothing serious. But still, I feel “delete” should only mean “delete the plugin title from the plugin list”. Deleting the code files should, in my opinion be a separate (new) option, so: “Activate – Remove title – Delete code files”.

It won’t change the world, but in my opinion this would be “cleaner”.

“But still, I feel “delete” should only mean “delete the plugin title from the plugin list”. ” And then, when the plugin is gone from the list, how do you actually delete it? The use of “delete” here is consistent with how things work across all sorts of software platforms.

You’re probably right, Steve. But one cannot be too cautious. Either a third option (“Activate – Delete title – Delete files”) or a warning popup (“You’re about to physically delete folder or files so-and-so”) would, in my opinion, really make sense. My 2 cents.

No idea if that is true. For Drupal (9.3.7), in my view, it is not (at least not in a localhost situation) : “uninstalling” leads to a warning that all data related to the plugin will be lost, which applies to the settings etc., but Not to the code files. If you want to get rid of those, you have to go to the Drupal folders and manually delete the plugin’s files. Is that better? Dunno. Perfect safety is an illusion. However, better (a little bit more) safe than sorry, especially when code is concerned.

If you want a make a case where the developers would see it, create a ticket on core.trac.www.ads-software.com. I give it no chance of success, but who knows? Maybe you’ll find some core devs who’ve shot themselves in the foot this way. ??
