    Dear Plugin Team,

we have been receiving very strange emails from PayPal for 2 days now, attached below, claiming that something is wrong with our store system or server. We are currently using the following combination:

    WordPress system (version 6.1.1)
    WooCommerce (version 7.5.1)
    WooCommerce PayPal Payments (Version 2.0.4)

Under “WooCommerce–>Status–>Logs” there are no error messages noted from the PayPal interface. The orders are processed smoothly. Shop system seems to be healthy.

We would be very happy if you could let us know what can be the reason for these warnings and what we need to do.

We contacted PayPal as well, but they referred us to the Plugin authors ;))
(You can answer in German as well if you like)

    With kind regards

    Ralf

Hallo … ! überprüfen Sie Ihren Server, der die sofortigen Zahlungsbest?tigungen (IPN) von PayPal verarbeitet. IPNs, die an die folgenden URL(s) gesendet werden, werden nicht empfangen:

    https://shop.photoadventure.eu/wc-api/paypal_plus_ipn/

    https://shop.photoadventure.eu/wc-api/paypal_express_ipn/

    Hello @ralfs2

The previous IPN endpoint was only used by the PayPal Checkout Gateway plugin (or the Standard integration) and can be disregarded/deleted if you no longer use any of the two integrations: https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-stop-receiving-instant-payment-notifications-(ipns)-faq426
PayPal Payments does not use PayPal IPN, but instead transmits events via webhooks. This works similar to IPN, but better, and so you don’t need to enter a specific URL anywhere as everything is automatically configured by the plugin.
We added an interface to manage the webhooks from within the plugin on the “Webhooks Status” page:

(at the bottom of the “Connection” tab)
The webhook registration happens automatically when connecting your account, but if you have any issues with the communication to PayPal, we recommend clicking the “Resubscribe” button and after the site is reloaded, the “Simulate” to verify that the webhooks are received.
So there is no need to worry about PayPal IPN anymore when using PayPal Payments as the new integration uses the latest PayPal JavaScript SDK and REST API integration.
It’s worth mentioning that there are cases where PayPal sends these emails out even when the IPN is actually working. But when you removed the previous plugin, the endpoint no longer exists and so it would fail.

For any further questions, feel free to reach out anytime.

    Regards,
    Femi.

Thank you for this answer. So, this means we can ignore the messages from Paypal concerning the IPN, right?
We are using the Paypal Payments plugin since 6 month now, before we had the old “PayPal Plus” Plugin from Inpsyde. But this is removed already.
Do we need to contact PayPal concerning these messages?
    What should we tell them?
    Best regards

    Ralf

    Hi @ralfs2

Yes, messages regarding IPN can be disregarded.
Our old PayPal Plus plugin used IPN, but PayPal Payments uses webhooks as described above.

To stop receiving Instant Payment Notifications (IPNs), you can follow these steps from the PayPal guide:

    1. In your PayPal account settings, go to?Notifications.
    2. Click Update next to ‘Instant payment notifications.’
    3. Click Edit settings.
    4. Select Do not receive IPN messages (Disabled) and click Save.

It should look something like this for a German PayPal merchant:

If you are still getting emails regarding IPN, I suggest contacting the PayPal Merchant Support and asking what else could be done to fully disable all IPN notifications.

    I hope this helps!

    Kind regards,
    Niklas
