@mopperle: Can you try to add folder by folder to backup. Than we can see if it a problem on a special folder.

@arnerobot: I think 600 seconds is too long. Try 30.

@ Daniel: I excluded the biggest folder with my gallery and the problem is the same. Backup obviously stops when the tar file reached a size of 31.457.280 Byte. Tried the same with the option .zip and it worked.

Added the gallery folder again and it failed for the same reason. restart time was 600 sec. Tried with 30 sec and same result. Obviously there is a problem when handling my gallery folder: got 1 subfolder with 2 subfolders and over 700 jpegs with a size between 100 and 1500 kB.

If you have an idea I’ll give it a last try, otherwise I will rely on my providers backup strategy.

@rolandofeld: reduce the setting from 30 to 20 sec.

@mopperle: If you have command line access, you can do the backup over the command line. Than php has not the web server limits. Else you can only split the job in multiple with every job does a part of the backup.

@daniel 20 seconds doesnt make a difference – i am thinking there is something majorly wrong with this release of the plugin since many people seem to have the same issue?

I’m having same issue, and it is not that big of database, looking at the backup . . . it looks like it actually backed up.
I get the warning 3 times and it then continues on.

But would have to agree with others . . . there is a problem and command line is not an option . . . other than testing.

Same problem. Seems to be growing. I tried 0 – 30 sec increments. It would be nice if the log identified the errors.

new version does not fix the problem either.. frustrating..

I had this problem awhile back with another site and had to revert back to the previous version 3.0.11 because it was doing basically the same thing. The backup file size doubled when I updated. Now on another site with this error message, I never did the last update. Kind of a big deal as it will not back up the site till I resolve the problem. Help is also needed. Thanks

Hi, Daniel! First of all thank you for this great plugin.

I get the same WARNING. Here are the things i’ve tried:

-BackWPup > Settings > Tab: Jobs. Set max. execution time to 30 seconds
-switching betwenn PHP 5.3 / PHP 5.5
-switching between BackWPup 3.1.2 and 3.1.3-beta6

Another info, that maybe can help you:
This website is hosted on strato.de. (Another projects of mine are hosted by all-inkl.com and your plugin just works there, but not on strato.de)

If it’s a litespeed server check this out. It solved it for me.

@daniel Hüsken i’ve also tried setting execution limit to 20 sec

But i’m stil having the same issue: Backup run takes 968seconds (size of WP-Installation is about 70mb) and the created backup-archive is broken (can’t be extracted).

I am having this issue as well. If I exclude my Uploads folder, it zips along just fine. But if I leave the Uploads folder, which is about 200+ MB, it will either time out with an error, or it completes with no errors but I am unable to open the backup tar.gz after downloading it (get an error “Unable to expand ‘filename.tar.gz'” any further details).

Daniel, this is a big problem. I have a post here describing something similar with no response. Your plugin is NOT MAKING BACKUPS, which is a critical problem for all your users.

I encourage you to please address this bug ASAP.
