• Warning: Once you install this plugin there is no safe way to de-activate or uninstall it. I know. I tried and it left me with an unusable site. I tried to fix it but the problem was so bad that in the end, I re-installed it. That fixed the problem but now I have a plugin I don’t really want.

    The reason I wanted to remove it was that I discovered that this plugin had a conflict with another (easy modal) that I wanted to use. I understand that this can happen but you would expect to be able to de-activate a plugin without impact. Not so for qTranslate. When you do, it changes all of your pages. It saves ALL of the language versions of each page by appending them all into a single page! It wrecks your menu in a similar manner. It also left two of my critical plugins (justified image grid and meta slider) non-functional. In effect, my site became crippled.

    I realise that this plugin has a huge following but be aware that if you install it, you will have to keep using it forever. There is no way to remove it safely. I’m facing a complete rebuild.

    I just found a way to stop automatic WP updates. You should do this if you install qTranslate because each time WP is updated qTranslate will lock you out of editing your web site.

    The best way to stop the auto updates completely is to edit your wp-config.php file in your web site’s home directory (I use an FTP program to get access to this file – I recommend WinSCP). Add the following to this file:

    define( 'AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED', true );

    This is according to the WordPress codex page on the subject found at:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Configuring_Automatic_Background_Updates

    This way, I should be able to defer any update to WP until the author of qTranslate updates his plugin to match the new WP version. Only once he’s done that will it be safe to take the WP update.

    One of the joys of using the qTranslate plugin.
