    Hi,

I’m facing an issue with “SEO WordPress v1.5.6”. For each article, I got this error under the title SEO:

Warning: Despite that you can define meta robots, the whole site is configured to noindex in the site’s privacy settings, so these settings will have no effect.

But my website is indexed and there is no “noindex” tag.
I did many research on this topic but I didn’t get any clear answer.

Thank you in advance for your help.

@ema15 SEO WordPress v1.5.6 is not a plugin developed by Yoast. The SEO plugin we develop is Yoast SEO and is currently version 14.3. So we can’t really advise you how the plugin might have set the site to noindex, as it isn’t our plugin.

However, that being said, ?as for the global indexing of the site in WordPress, you can check this in the following way:

      In WordPress go to Settings>Reading
Make sure for ‘Search Engine Visibility’ that ‘Discourage search engines from indexing this site’ is NOT checked
      Click ‘Save Changes’

Can you please try the aforementioned suggestions and let us know whether this resolves your issue?

    Hi,

First, thank you for your reply. It’s a plugin developped by Joost de Valk. When I clicked on it, I’m redirected to Yoast Website. Also the sitemap is generated by “Yoast’s WordPress SEO plugin”

I want to add an attached image to this post to be more clear, but unfortunately I couldn’t.

    Hi @ema15,

    Thank you for your reply.

We are sorry for the confusion earlier. The SEO WordPress version you are referring to is indeed a very old version of this plugin which has become the current Yoast SEO plugin. At this time we are on version 14.3.

Having said the above, please know that we definitely recommend you to install Yoast SEO at the current version. Please know that this might have implications as this is a very old version. Please also check if your site meets the plugin requirements and that WordPress, all other plugins, and themes are up to date as well. We recommend doing this on a staging site first to see if your site is compatible with all the latest versions.

Apart from that, going back to the noindex issue. If you are sure that the checkbox to discourage search engines to include the site in the search results is disabled, can you share a URL of any page where you get this notification on so we can check?

    Hi @jeroenrotty,

Thank you so much fo this clarification.

Exactly, it’s an old version of Yoast SEO plugin. I will try first to update and test the current version of plugin on my staging site.

Otherwise, The “discourage search engines to include the site in the search results” is disabled.

Find below a sample page from the website:
    https://www.mapexpress.ma/actualite/monde/sainte-sophie-sainte-sagesse-choix-du-musee-mosquee/

Thank you for getting back. Please do check the update but bear in mind that his is a very old version and that it might have issues with the previous data, so please do check it out very carefully.

We checked the URL you mentioned and can’t see a noindex on the page, nor see any issue in your robots.txt.

I installed also “Google Analytics by Yoast” v5.0.5. So Do I have to update it or I keep it while there is no problem?.

That is a plugin that is no longer maintained by us and is now part of the Monster Insight plugins. We’ve written about this here in 2016: https://yoast.com/new-home-google-analytics-plugins/.

We always recommend running the latest versions of all plugins, themes, and WordPress itself for security, performance, stability, and functionality reasons. You can find more info on this last topic here.

Thank you so much for your advices and your help.

The website has a good traffic, so this update wouldn’t negatively affect it’s traffic?.

    Hi @ema15,

That’s a little hard to answer. Keeping your site up to date is good for multiple reasons as stated before. Running the latest versions should make sure the site is safe, feature-packed, and stable. However, please note that we do recommend having backups in place and to first update all of this on your staging environment to test it all out. Good luck!

Ok, I will give it a try.

One last question, my website is a news website and many articles are publishing every day. So, it’s difficult to optimize each article (keyword, meta description tag..). Do you have any idea how to achieve that or automate this operation.

    Thank you again.

    Hello @ema15

You can set default templates for your titles and meta descriptions by following the steps here — https://yoast.com/snippet-variables/

However, for focus keywords, there’s no way to automate this process. We recommend you input the focus keyphrase in your news article or blog post, and then use the SEO and Readability content analysis feedback to make adjustments to your content accordingly, as this would be the best way for you to further optimize your content — https://yoast.com/use-content-analysis-yoast-seo/

Also, just to add, we also do have a News SEO plugin that works with either the free or premium version of Yoast SEO for WordPress. It adds specific features that would help a news site. You can check it out here.

    Hi,

At this moment, I will not proceed for a wordpress update, because it’s a hard and long process. I will remove the “SEO WordPress v1.5.6” and install the Yoast SEO version which is compatible to the current wordpress version.

So, which Yoast SEO version support wordpress 4.6.6?

    Thank you.

    Hello @ema15

    Thank you for your feedback!

The News SEO plugin is a paid add-on plugin that will work with either the free or premium version of the main Yoast SEO for WordPress plugin. We also have a Yoast News Premium Bundle that bundles both Yoast SEO Premium and News SEO.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. If none, we’ll proceed to mark this as resolved.
