I have been experiencing troubles with setting a watermark to my images as of today, but did not change any of my settings. The watermark won’t be attached automatically OR manually at all. Is there a fix for this bug or an upcoming update for the plugin? Thank you.

    WordPress version 6.1.1
    NextGen version 3.30

Hi, I am glad to help.

Did any of your plugins update recently? One update to another plugin could bring in a conflict. To test this, you can deactivate all your plugins except NextGEN and see if the watermarking works. If yes, then reactivate a couple plugins at a time and try again until you find the culprit. Then please let us know and them so we can create a bug report and look for a fix on our side if possible

Also, you can ask your hosting company if they updated/changed something in your server, database, php, gdlibrary, permissions or anything in the past few days.

I hope this helps, please keep me posted.

    Hi Jaime,

Thank you for your response. The only thing I did was to install a couple of WordPress themes I wanted to try out, which have already been deleted.
The watermarks were still working yesterday without a problem, and by that time, those themes had already been installed and then deleted, as I had no use for them. So I doubt the themes were a problem.

I haven’t updated any of my backend. The plugins remained unchanged. The following plugins are currently active:
    – NextGEN Gallery (v 3.30)
    – Contact Form 7 (v 5.7.1)
    – Smash Balloon Instagram Feed (v 6.1)
    – Sunset Core (part of the Sunset theme, v 1.0)
    – WP Visitor Statistics (Real Time Traffic, v 6.4)

    – WordPress v 6.1.1

I have been using these plugins since the start of my website and they did not cause any problems so far. A deactivation of them did not cause the watermarking to return.

Usually, my host sends an update for every upgrade done to their servers or backend. There were no updates recently.

    Thank you.

    Hi @pvthudson87,

We hope you wouldn’t mind checking if you use “Post Name” permalink settings within “Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks”.

It’d also worth checking the watermark image that’s being used within “NextGen Gallery -> Other Options -> Watermarks -> Image URL”.

Please let us know if the above gives you any results. If not, we suggest trying to temporarily downgrade your site’s PHP version to see if that’ll change anything.

Like I said, nothing was changed. The permalink and URL are still the same. I have checked the links again and copy/pasted them once more, but the problem remains. I think downgrading my PHP, which I don’t know how to do, would be too much of a risk for my entire website just to fix a minor watermarking problem. I might just wait for an update of the plugin or install an additional watermarking plugin separate from NextGen. Thank you very much for your help and happy holidays.

Also you may want to check the firewall logs in case that your hosting uses one to ensure that there are not any ngg requests blocked.

I found the following error message in an error_log file.

[21-Dec-2022 18:19:04 UTC] PHP Warning: Trying to access array offset on value of type null in /***URL***/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_basic_gallery/templates/thumbnails/default-view.php on line 51

(Please note the timestamp is in UTC. The server is in Europe, as I am registered with a German company. I live in Canada on the West Coast though now.)

Sorry but none of these are critical neither anyhow related with the watermark issue. I’m afraid that in the most cases, the watermark requests would silently fail in case of a routing problem of any sort or because of a blocked request from the server side.

If you know how, you can try inspecting the watermark request’s response to see if that’ll give you any further ideas on why its failing.
