• Hey guys!

Let’s say a few people are using my plugin already.

Is there a way to automatically upgrade them to the latest version of that plugin?

Otherwise how would they know I have a latest version of the plugin?

Something with socket opening to your server (most updated version), right I suppose?

    Thanks a bunches,

    Jay

If you submit your plugin to the plugin repository, and follow the instructions (create a readme file in the correct format), then they will give you an SVN space in which you can upload and host your plugin. This gives you several benefits:
    1. Free bandwidth for downloads of your plugin.
    2. Free hosting space for it.
    3. Entry into the directory and central repository.
    4. Automatic packaging of your plugin into ZIP files and such.
    5. Automatic upgrade notification when you have a new version.

Basically when you use the SVN system to enter the new version correctly, it will automatically repackage it and WordPress installs everywhere will suddenly show that a newer version of your plugin is available.

    ah thanks!

now does this go for all wordpress.com hosted blogs as well as ones that people download from you?

WordPress.com users can’t install plugins of their own, so it doesn’t really apply to them.

axeldrummer: it will prompt user that there is a newer version of the plugin available but it will not auto upgrade for them.
