• Hi,
Permalinks is a great plugin but has issues with landing page experiments. I would like to transition out of using it.
What are the best steps & sequence I can take to remove permalinks but using the same URL’s for my current pages, even it means a manual work?

    Thanks
    Ronny

    Hi Ronny,

Do you mean to remove this plugin and use the default WP permalinks?

If yes, so you can do that by following these steps:

    1. Make a list of the current permalinks with their respective edit URLs.
    2. Then disable the plugin
    3. Go to edit URLs and update it with their respective URLs.

Thank you sami. When you say “edit”, do you refer to Post name or Custom Structure? if the goal is duplicating permalinks plugin names.

    Hi Ronny,

I mean to say after disabling the plugin edit each post individually and update the permalinks.

By the way, Why you want to remove this plugin?

    Hi Sami,

Permalinks is a great plugin but it has issues with landing page experiments such as google analytics & optimize press due to redirect.

When I edit each post individually, do I do so through Post name or Custom Structure, I want to duplicate the same URL permalink has given me before the disabling?

Hey Ronny, Can you tell me in detail what issues you are facing? If it’s possible for me and it’s on my end so, i’ll fix them.

After disabling the Plugin, You can see the permalink which is created by WordPress on creating time of post. So, you need to check whether there is anything you need to update or the URL is already duplicating itself.

If the URL has already the same as it was so, you don’t need to do anything. Otherwise, make the changes as per your desired requirement

    Hi Sammy,

The issue is that with two different experiment program, it seems that the plug in goes into a redirect loop. I’ll copy the response of optimize press, for example:

“OptimizePress live editor pages rely on the WordPress permalink structure and using other plugins that modify that will break the pages from loading properly. his is because of how OptimizePress works and requires the permalink to be set under “settings > permalinks” in WordPress. You should also be able to go to “pages > all pages” and click “edit” (instead of live editor) and you can modify the permalink there and that is fine, but you can’t use plugins for that.”

Question: What happens when you disable temporarily the plugin, and re-enable it? Would the links will be restored?

    Hello again,

Following your step 1, how can I easily get a list of all previous links?

Also, if I pause the plugin and activate it again (without deleting) would I have all link data removed?
