In the networks analysis I see a call to geoplugin (which works), but no call to any openweathermap-related site ….

Seems that I found the sad answer:

https://openweathermap.org/price

They want 180 USD/month (!) for their SSL-encoded service.

Means that your solution will work only on http-sites, but due the mixed-content issue not on https-sites.

I try now Simo Ahavas solution manually (https://www.simoahava.com/analytics/send-weather-data-to-google-analytics-in-gtm-v2/) and replace the call of the openweathermap with one to forecast.io or the yahoo api.

I will be happy to do so.

I was already successful with https://darksky.net, but the limitation here is 1.000 API calls per day free (per SSL), and then they charge $0.0001 per additional call (per day).

I will check in the next days the Yahoo service, which seems to be free.

I suggest that you add a remark about the costs of openweathermap for SSL-websites, wich helps users to understand why it does not work from scratch.

BTW, a czech guy (Marek Lecián) already worked something out based on Simos blog
