I just noticed that right after completing the conversions there are a bunch of images that end with filename.webp.deleted

I deleted those images from the folder and then the counter shows that I still have some files to convert (the counter said 100% before I removed them).

Can I simply ignore the counter? What’s the purpose of those files?

    Hello @outcats85,

    Thanks for your message.

If you get this file that means the original image weighed less than WebP. In this case, the original file is used instead of the WebP file. .deleted file is used to prevent such a file from being converted again. This happens when images have been compressed before. Disable the “Automatic removal of files in output formats larger than original” option in plugin settings to force always using WebP.

What level of conversion strategy have you chosen?

    Best,
    Mateusz

Thanks for the reply. I’ve chosen Optimal setting.
Should I keep those webp.deleted files or I can remove them? The main concern was to save space on the server.

@outcats85 These files weigh nothing. They are empty. I would have ignored it. This is not a bug, it is a planned action.

If you have a lot of them, it means that your files have probably been optimized before. In this situation, using AVIF can be a good solution – AVIF files are about 25% smaller than WebP.
