• I’m setting up a web site for a company that I’m launching, and thus I thought I would raise my ambitions and get a premium plan.

I created a new wordpress site, got a premium plan and a custom url. After much dabbling I realized that I would probably need a few plugins, and thus need to install wordpress properly on my computer. Since that realization I have googled, and googled and googled and gotten nowhere except for various points in the vast, unhelpful circle that is the WordPress codex.

I realize that this is incredibly basic, but the first thing I need to do is apparently get access to my web server, and I have no idea how to do that. As I got my site directly from wordpress I have never been in contact with any third party. According to webhostinghero.com, my web host is indeed wordpress. According to browserspy.dk, my web server is nginx. So how do I access it? I cant see anything in my site or admin dashboards that enables me to access my web server. Nginx has no login feature or the like as far as I can see, it seems to be a text-only website from 1994.

In addition, wordpress seems to recommend Bluehost. If wordpress hosts sites itself, why does it not recommend itself?

As you can tell, I’m quite confused and I would really appreciate some pointers.

www.ads-software.com does not providing hosting for sites, it provides the software for other people to use their own sites on their own hosts.

The WordPress team has provided a list of a few recommended hosting providers.

    Is your site wordpress.COM?

If so, this link explains the differences: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Thank you for your reply Tara!

Yes, my site is wordpress.com, I have a premium plan. Ok, so the link you sent states that there is no need to install plugins on wordpress.com. And a link on that page directs to this page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/, stating that “the most popular plug-in features” is included into wordpress.com.

But how do I get access to plugin features that are apparently not among the most popular? What I would need right now for instance is a plugin that enables me to add javascript directly to pages.

I have never had the premium .com account so I can’t be sure but I do not believe you can install plugins that are not listed on that page. You might want to go with .org so you can install/delete any plugins you want.

Hopefully someone knows some plugins that can help you.

@professorpitfire: Since this is a forum for www.ads-software.com and not wordpress.com you are in the wrong place.

It sounds like you paid for a service so you should ask the service-provider for support.

You’re posting in the wrong place and need to ask in the correct forum.

This forum here is for self-hosted WordPress.ORG software installations.

    It’s a common misunderstanding.

BTW they do not provide the ability for users to install plugins.
