Web story poster image is not changing

I’ve been having this issue as well! Was just going to start a topic to bring this up. I keep changing the poster image but it will not save. My plugin is updated to the latest version as well.

To be more specific, this issue is happening for me on the stories I created today. Specifically, https://jordosworld.com/web-stories/cowboy-caviar/ and https://jordosworld.com/web-stories/buffalo-chicken-meatballs/. Thank you in advance for any guidance.

I first noticed this started happening when trying to create a Web Story on Thursday. I usually start by Duplicating a story and the first thing I do is change the Poster Image. It will allow me to upload a new one and it will show in the Document tab, but once I press Save, it will revert back to the original stories Poster image.

Yep, it’s broken.

This is because of the new feature to Link to File.

Because of this, there’s a (temporary) workaround:
– Choose an image with the regular Poster picker
– Do the normal cropping
– Get the full URL of that cropped image
– Click on the Poster image again but this time, pick “Link to a File”
– Save
=> The story will have the correct poster.

It looks like Google’s team tested the new way of adding posters but forgot to check that the way that everyone uses still worked…

Hi @ankitsolanki thanks for opening a support topic. We are aware of this issue with poster images not changing and have been working on a fix which we plan to release this week. As soon as the new version becomes available I will update this topic to let you know.

@ankitsolanki We have just released version 1.23.1 of the plugin which addresses the issue with the poster image. Please could you update to the latest version and confirm this fixes the issue for you.

Hi @adamdunnage – I have 1.23.1 installed and the issue is not resolved. I am unable to change the poster image.

However
The correct poster image DOES show up on the Archives page. It’s only in the Stories Dashboard that it does not update.

@theadventuredispatch If you check from an Incognito window has the poster image updated on the dashboard?

No – it has still remained unchanged. I even tried to change it again using the incognito window.
I go to the Document Tab and change the Poster Image file. Click Update (since it is already published). It shows the new image in the Document Tab. I back out to the Stories Dashboard where all of my Stories are listed, it has reverted back. When I go back into the Story, Click on Document Tab, it is the old image.

I’ve the same exact issue on my end.

@theadventuredispatch Thanks for the update. We have been able to replicate this and are continuing to investigate the issue. We will aim to get another release out as soon as we can. I will provide updates here when I have them.

@adamdunnage just wanted to add I’ve updated to the newest version of the plugin and am still unable to change the poster image as well. It was on a duplicated web story and keeps reverting back to the original. I’ll keep monitoring this chain & check for updates in the plugin as well. Thanks.

@lifeinjordosworld @shancock17 we have a potential fix that we are looking to release soon but it would be great if you could first test this yourself and let us know if the issue is cleared with this.
