    At the moment I have the ‘Performance Lab’ plugin active with the option for Webp images.

    For a while now I’ve been running into the problem that the WordPress app for iOS/iPadOS doesn’t support these web images.

    So I can’t edit the featured images of the posts that have webp images (see screenshot). Also, the webp images are not displayed in the posts tab (see screenshot). The photos are displayed in the media library.

    Hopefully a solution can be found for this. This is very irritating.

    Thanks in advance!

  • I can see why it’s annoying to have some images unsupported in the app. These kinds of images are supported in WordPress core, so it would make sense for them to be in the WordPress app as well.

    At this time Webp is supported on Android, but it’s not yet in the iOS app. There is an open issue to add it, however, and I’ve noted your wish for a solution in the Github issue on it

    Thanks for your response. Glad to read that this is known and that something has been done about it

    Just one more question;

    Only if I have the Jetpack plugin, can I edit images in the library (add captions, etc.) in the iOS/iPadOS app of WordPress. Why can’t this be done without the Jetpack plugin?

    This was always possible before. This is an obstacle for me because I want to get rid of Jetpack.

    This is something that’s supported in WordPress Core, so I agree it should be supported in the WordPress app as well. I’ve gone ahead and added a feature request for this, which you can follow on GitHub, if you’d like.

    @mdrockwell

    okay, so I understand that this is now not possible without Jetpack?

    Someone else said that it is possible and that I have to clear cache etc. but none of this helps: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/images-cannot-be-edited-without-jetpack-plugin/

    @jacksonpercy Thanks for your response but I don’t want to convert the images. I just switched to webp format to improve the performance of my site.
