Strangely, when I deactivate the WP-Optimize plugin, and then reactivate it, the plugin stop to serve WebP images. Before the deactivation of the plugin, everything works normally (Jpeg images are served as WebP images). But after the reactivation, the WebP images are now served as classic Jpeg images (even if nothing changed in the configuration of the plugin itself).

To solve this problem, I have to ?uncheck and then recheck? the box [Create WebP version of image]. Or I can also click on the [Reset WebP serving method] link (both in the menu [Images > WebP conversion].

=> Does anyone also have this problem?
=> Is it a known bug? Is there a solution?

    Thank you for your help.

Thanks for reaching out! We haven’t encountered this issue before, but I’ll look into it further and try to replicate the behavior on my end. If I manage to reproduce the issue, I’ll make sure to investigate it thoroughly and provide any updates or potential solutions here.

    Hello womansour,

I tested the bug today, and I confirm that their is a problem.

I’ve created a new virgin WordPress website using ?Local WP? (PHP 8.2.23 / Apache / MySQL 8.0.16 / WordPress 6.6.2).

    • I’ve added 2 images (JPG + PNG) on a page using Gutenberg.
    • I’ve installed the free version of WP-Optimize plugin (v3.7.0).
    • I’ve activated the WebP image management, by checking the option [Create WebP version of image] + [Reset WebP serving method].
    • Everything works fine. The images are served as WebP.
    • Then I deactivated the plugin. And then reactitavte it.
    • Now, the WebP are not served anymore (just the basic JPG and PNG).
    • For the WebP images to be served again, I need either to:
      1) Recheck the option [Create WebP version of image]
      2) OR reclick [Reset WebP serving method].
    • Then the WebP images are served normally again.

    Thank you for your help.

Thank you for confirming and providing the steps to replicate the issue. I really appreciate that.

I have successfully replicated the same behavior, and it does appear to be a bug. I’ve escalated this to our development team for further investigation, and they are working on a fix.

I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have any updates from the team. Thanks for your patience!
