Webshop redesign

  • Hey guys.
    We have an online webshop with clothes. We are using Woocommerce plugin for selling, managing orders and everything else.

    We are not satisfied with the current theme we are using, so we are planing on changing it and redesigning the whole website. We also noticed some bugs while trying to update the website and therefore we are thinking on wiping the whole website and creating a new wordpress instalation and everything else.

    Does anybody have a good idea on how to do this? Currently we have aroung 500 products on our website and we dont want to add them manually again after reinstall.
    What steps should we take?

  • Hi @swoosh983 – While completely wiping and rebuilding your site may be a lot of work, it’s certainly possible.

    In regards to moving the products over, I would suggest looking at the built-in product import/export functionality: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/product-csv-importer-exporter/
    This would prevent you from having to manually create all of the products in the new site.

    Aside from this, is there anything else you’d like a suggestion on?

    Are the paid plugins the only option?

    That’s an excellent question. There’s not a built-in way to move over orders and customers. You may be able to find a free plugin here at www.ads-software.com that meets your needs. If it isn’t quite what you’re looking for, you could then try one of the paid options.

    One more dilemma regarding the wiping of the website … what would be the best way to do this, since I am gonna take time to completely rebuild it, I don’t want the website to be down for that time?

    Should I build it on my local server and then publish it online or what would be the best way to do this?
