• Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at<

I believe I’m using 4.3 but not certain. Above is what I get when I try to log on to my site administrator link. My website is jeffwhitaker.com You can see what happens there. Not sure what happened. Go Daddy which hosts my site says everything was fine from their end. That I have to get it corrected from the wordpress aspect.

I’m so frustrated. The problem is I’m not gooo at all from a technical standpoint and I feel like I might have messed something up even more. I went into my plugins and tried changing out the file names for each one (one by one) it didn’t make a difference and so I deleted all my plug ins. I’m hoping there is a way I can reinstall the basic files so I don’t loose everything I’ve built in my ProStyler theme.

Can someone help me? I really need step by step. Technical jargon and language are not my strong suit. ??

    Thanks in advance.

1-do you have a backup of your website files and database?
    -OR-
2-does godaddy have any backup of your website file and database?

3-how did you access your plugins to delete them? (via file manager in godaddy cpanel or using an FTP client?

In my Go Daddy File Manager I do have something that says. _db_backups Is that it?

And I accessed my plugins through my Go Daddy File Manager.

Contact GoDaddy to ask about what is included in the backup file and how recent it is.
I ask about the backup file just in case there is a need access it later.

To preserve the work you have done on the theme, you will need to have access to all customizations you have done. Are you using a child theme or did you do most of your changes int he customizer area of your dashboard?

Your theme is located in the WP-content folder that can be viewed in your Godaddy file manager.

(SOME customizations may be in a special theme modification area of your database area)

Before doing any further changes to try to fix your situation, be sure you have a copy/backup of your theme files+database.

I called Go Daddy and they actually helped me get the site up again. They said its been hacked with some pretty serious stuff and that I need to research how to do a core file replacement to get rid of all the bad stuff. Not looking forward to that. If anyone has any insight into that process, I’m open for help. Thanks contentiskey for you help thus far .

if you have found that the website has been hacked, there are some steps to follow:

    carefully follow this guide.

When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.
