Website Barely Loading Since Update

  • Hello,

    Since I updated my client’s site to the latest WordPress release it has been moving EXTREMELY slow. After waiting a week to see if it would improve, I spoke with GoDaddy, and they said it is possibly a plugin compatibility issue causing the website to move so slow. I attempted to do a speed test, however, the test site replied with an error stating the website to took too long to load. Can someone help me understand what could be the issue?

    disable all plugins and set the theme to twentysixteen.

    If it’s not better, it’s godaddy’s probelm.

    If it is, re-anable things one at a time until you find out what’s slowing down your site.

    Same issue. I’m downgrading back to 4.5. Here’s the list of files changed in 4.5.1

    How does one downgrade to the older version?

    You sure disabling all plugins does not fix this? Because i have upgraded to 4.5.1 and its fine..

    foxtail: please start your own support thread; you may be having a similar problem but not necessarily the same one.

    To downgrade to an earlier version you need to overwrite the /wp-admin/ and /wp-include/ directories with the earlier versions. I would not recommend this at all unless you are fairly experienced with ftp, code and such.

    Let me experiment and I’ll get back on this. If it shows that WP is the cause then you can consider it, otherwise, probably not a realistic solution, but rather a bug that should be fixed by WP or the plugin that’s causing the slowness if it can be isolated – many if’s.

    We have two versions of the same site: one on 4.4.2 and one on 4.5.1 and the 4.5.1 is molasses. There are some other differences which I’m trying to eliminate to be sure that the problem is WP and not a plugin or theme issue.
