    URGENT

Your latest update just caused a catastrophic collapse of our website.

We have had to enter a recovery mode and deactivate the plugin. Once done, the website recovered immediately.

    What has happened please?

This is urgent, as we are a non-profit wildlife conservation organization and in order to have a working website we have had to deactivate your plugin and therefore our security.
    This is unacceptable.
Would appreciate some URGENT assistance please!

    WordPress version 5.5.3
Current theme: Twenty Seventeen (version 2.4)
Current plugin: Wordfence Security (version 7.4.14)
    PHP version 7.4.13

    The fatal error message reads:

Hello @jpm2f and thanks for reaching out.

Try the update again. Sometimes WP will fail to install. It might just be confusion by WP’s fatal error handler if one hit failed in the middle of the update and caused an email to be sent.

Let me know if it starts working.

    Thanks!

    Hi there.

Thank you for responding. One small problem however, which you seem to have overlooked … Once updated, it is not possible to re-update.

Are you saying the only solution is for me to uninstall/delete your plugin and then reinstall it? You are aware this will mean I lose all of my settings, blocks, lists, IPs etc?

Would appreciate knowing because we did not touch the installation, as you appear to be inferring, and we, reading in the forum, are not the only user to have experienced this failure. This is a MAJOR inconvenience and liability to security you have caused here.

    Thank you.

    Hello again @jpm2f

Where are we currently with the update? Are you seeing any issues still after the update?

You could send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

I can review to see how everything looks currently.

    Thanks!
