Website form (sometimes) not working

  • Hello,

    I currently run a website where people can submit their own content through a form. I just started it and earlier today, everything was working great and people were able to submit their content. However, now all of a sudden, it doesn’t work anymore. The plugin for the forms is Gravity Forms and when you click “Submit” now, it just redirects to the same form, empty, and the content is not submitted.

    It’s really weird because I didn’t change anything in the code or anything. Could it be my host? Have any of you had a similar experience?

    Have you tried:

    -deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s). If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try deactivating via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. If applicible, also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder. The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old.
    – To rule out any theme-specific issue, try switching to the unedited default theme for a moment using the WP dashboard. If you don’t have access to your admin area, you can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.
    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).

    Yes, I tried changing themes and finding a plugin that *might* cause the issue, but without result. Not the theme nor any plugins are causing it. As I said, it worked fine earlier today, and now it doesn’t, and I didn’t change ANYTHING in the code/theme/plugins. But I’ll try out resetting the plugins folder and I’ll let you know, thanks for the help!

    OK.

    Try that first. If that does not resolve the issue, reupload
    Gravity Forms plugin from a freash download.

    If even that does not help, you may want to disxuss with your hosting provider. See if they made any changes that may have caused this problem.

    Ok I have done what you told me, now I just need to wait and see if it works again. But still, how could a plugin or Gravity Forms cause this issue? Because it was working just fine.

    It didn’t work… I woke up this morning and I saw that 3 members successfully submitted their content, but 1 member still had the same problem as mentioned before. I don’t get it, why does it work for some people and for some it doesn’t? Is this a server issue? Is it the plugin? I’m really confused.

    Yeah I asked if it could be a server issue, but they said they only updated PHP and nothing else, so it couldn’t be a server issue…

    check if the PHP version they updated to is compatible with your plugin, as well as your WP installation.

    Ok but still, if it wasn’t compatible, why is it working for some people and for some it doesn’t?

    I can’t answer that. You may want to ask this to your hosting provider. They are the one who made changes to the server.

    Do you have .htaccess installed on your server? Was it changed recently?

    When I got with this host there was already a .htaccess file in my FTP. So I thought I didn’t have to change that one with the one from WordPress. Is that the problem?

    ^ I meant replace instead of change. I have now replaced the .htaccess file from my host with the one from WordPress. Will this work? I’m not sure but I think the problem is still occurring.

    Can someone please help me with this, I’m willing to even pay you! (That’s how desperate I am right now)

    So I tried hosting a copy of my website at a free hosting service, to see if it actually was a server issue. I asked someone who wasn’t able to submit the form at the actual website, to try and submit the form on the copy. When he was LOGGED OUT, it worked. When he was LOGGED IN, it didn’t work. So the plugin that is handling the logging in/registering etc. is causing a conflict? I’m using Profile Builder.

    Please, if someone knows a solution, tell me as soon as possible!
