I am hoping someone can please help me. I am completely new to wordpress and I already made an error. I am helping my work update their website. I noticed that it had a ‘Not secure’ info besides the navigation bar. When I researched I found out that I had to add an SSL certificate plugin. After adding it I then tried to load the page to access the admin page and then it said that website is not secure and now website is completely gone. I am unable to access wp-admin.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello,

This happens because you don’t have an SSL certificate installed on the server, so a security error occurs.
The best thing to do here is to talk to your hosting company and ask them to help you install an SSL certificate (they usually generate one for free from Lets Encrypt).

Have a good day and take care ??

Hi frosty, thank you so much for your reply.

Just to clarify, I added the Really simple SSL plugin on wordpress and then everything disappeared and I can’t log into the wp-admin. And the reason this happened is because we don’t have an SSL certificate installed on our server as in our web host? Sorry, I am so new at www.ads-software.com and I had offered my work to help update it and now this happens ??

    lol

You can’t set up HTTPS/SSL through WordPress…it must be done at the server level.

You should use FTP (or your hosting control panel) to delete the plugin you installed. If you don’t know how to use FTP and/or don’t have access to the hosting control panel, then you’ll need to tell your employer what you did. Hopefully someone in your company can delete the plugin you installed, but if not, the hosting company should be able to delete the plugin.

Once the site is back up, your employer can contact the hosting company and have them install an SSL certificate.
