• We bought a company a few years back and dont know specifically who managed / set up our WordPress website.

I had details for the backend however didnt update much. The back end link now doesn’t work and we got an Error 500 message for a while and then the website has been hacked and other content is now showing.

Any help whether we can recover or do anything without knowing who helped set this all up?

  • Hi, try contacting your webhost, maybe they can restore a backup in order to get your site back to its original/nonhacked state. From there you can update your plugins and site to be secure again.

    hello,

To Repair hacked site , i generally follow below steps :

    1. Make backup of website and database.
    2. Enable debug mode ON in wp-config.php file define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true); scan and identify malicious code , sometimes need to search in database for <script> tag as hackers add code so our website redirects to some 3rd party site.
    3. remove malicious code once you ON error log
    4. you can upgrade wordpress to latest version and from backup you can add only THEMES and PLUGINS to new upgraded wordpress , so once you upgrade wordpress , so if there is malicious code incjected in any core Files then with Upgrade it will be removed .
    5. once admin start open you can install Plugin named Wordfense , so with this plugin you can scan site , and find list of injected files.
