Website hacked. How did hacker change general settings?

    Yesterday my site was hacked. The hacker change Settings > general > Site title & also the utf code to 7, from 8. My site is now back to normal

    How did this happen? (this is my first wordpress site so I want to reduce the risk for the future)

    – I am using shared hosting (astutium.com)
    – All directories/ folders in wp-content were set to 755 & files to 644
    – I have the Ithemes security plugin in use
    – I have strong passwords
    – some of my plugins needed updating & so did wordpress

    How was this hacker successful & how can I reduce the risk? I know that my plugins/ wordpress should have been updated, but they were each only 1 version away from the most up to date.

    Advice please!

    +ADw-/title+AD4-hacked by matrix dz+ADw-DIV style+
