• This week, my WP website chinacredentials.com that has been chugging along just fine for years, would all of a sudden not load on my work laptop. Out of the blue. No changes, downloads, or upgrades have been implemented, either on the website or on the laptop.
If I try to access the home page, I get the following message:

    SORRY!
If you are the owner of this website, please contact your hosting provider:?

It is possible you have reached this page because:

    • The IP address has changed. The IP address for this domain may have changed recently. Check your DNS settings to verify that the domain is set up correctly. It may take 8-24 hours for DNS changes to propagate. It may be possible to restore access to this site by following these instructions for clearing your dns cache.
    • There has been a server misconfiguration. You must verify that your hosting provider has the correct IP address configured for your Apache settings and DNS records. A restart of Apache may be required for new settings to take effect.
    • The site may have moved to a different server. The URL for this domain may have changed or the hosting provider may have moved the account to a different server.

If I try to access any other page chinacredentials.com/anypage, I get the following message:

    404 Not Found
Please forward this error screen to chinacredentials.com’s WebMaster.

The server cannot find the requested page:

    • chinacredentials.com/cp_errordocument.shtml (port 443)

    A few things of note:
    1) It happens on both the local WiFi and on mobile networks.
    2) Chrome, FireFox and IE all display the same exact errors.
    3) The website works on every other device I have, including phones and a laptop.
    4) I can also not log into the website’s WP-admin dashboard from the browser or via the cPanel on the same laptop, it shows the same error message.
    5) All other websites hosted on the same hosting account work without issue on the same laptop.

I spent hours talking with hosting tech support, ISP tech support, domain registrar’s tech support, even the laptop manufacturer’s tech support.

Hosting blamed it on the network issues by saying there is a DNS issue (IP address assigned to the website is different than what it actually should be), ISP reset the routers and changed DNS settings, domain registrar checked settings on their end, and the manufacturer ran diagnostics and updates.

Cache (browser and DNS) was cleared/flushed, incognito mode was used, laptop was updated to latest software, we even tried to reset to public Google DNS servers, the website and database were restored to the backup from the day when it worked fine last week, the log was checked for errors. NOTHING helped.

The only thing that was out of place is when the tracert command was ran, there were a few timeouts, and the IP address shown was not the IP address detected when checking online.

Please, help me make sense of it!

    Thank you!

  • Hey,

If I understood correctly, once you have used the tracert command, the shown IP address in the terminal wasn’t matching with your hosting IP address, correct?

This is the so-called DNS cache, which usually stays on the network level, whenever the domain changes its A record. Usually, a simple internet router reboot solves any DNS cache which could’ve been on your network, but in some cases, the ISP help may be needed, to solve it quickly.

For example, once I traceroute your domain, the response is sent from the 198.54.125.13 IP address, and upon checking with the DNS checker – the A record matches.

So, in case your terminal outputs any different IP address, it would prove, that your network is facing a cache. I’d strongly recommend contacting your internet provider once again, to make sure, that your network routing would be working as expected.

Hi! Thank you SO much for replying! I really appreciate it!

The output IS a different IP address, like you said in your last paragraph, but:
    1) All other devices on the WiFi network load the website without issue,
    2) When I hotspot through my mobile phone, bypassing the ISP WiFi network, this website still has the same exact issues in all browsers.

I just can’t reconcile why that would be the case if it was the ISP issue. Any thoughts?

    Thank you again!
