Website or admin page will not appear

  • I am currently using hostgator, and when I use the quickinstall for WordPress it prompted me to chose which site to attach to the wordpress installation. The correct website was chosen, and the installation was completed. I received an email with the user name and a new password, plus two links: one is for the website, the other is the admin login. When I click on both links I am taken to a gray webpage with advertising on it.

  • Hey there! What it sounds like is your domain is either not pointed correctly to where WordPress is installed or the DNS has not propagated yet. Did you just register the domain recently? Is the domain also hosted with Hostgator? It would actually be most appropriate to open a ticket with them as it sounds like WordPress is working properly, your domain is just not pointed to it.

    Yeah, that definitely sounds like a DNS issue. If you register a domain in one place, but host it in another place, then you have to point the NameServers from the domain register to the host (HostGator in our case).

    To make things easier, find out the domain’s NameServers from where you registered it, then contact HostGator and provide those to them and ask them to change it for you.

    Note that it can take up to 24h until the NS are fully propagated, so you’ll have to wait a bit before getting to work.
