  • It really makes no difference if you use the root or a directory in most cases. It’s much easier and less risky to repoint a domain than move a site. Most hosts allow you to do that via cpanel or other admin tool. Once done, you simply change the url at settings ? general. You may have to resave permalinks and clean up any absolute urls you added but that’s about it.

Thanks! I was hoping for that exact answer! I really don’t want to risk ruining all my hard work.
So I wonder why people bother moving? Does it increase optimization or google spidering or whatnots?
    Thanks for your answer!

No, I think it’s just that they don’t understand the way domains work.

Thanks.. ok one last rookie Q.. if you don’t mind- just to double check- once my site is redirecting – done through my hosting co, do i change
    WordPress Address (URL)
    or
    Site Address (URL)
Enter the address here if you want your site homepage to be different from the directory you installed WordPress.

Just don’t want to make a mistake- i think it is the Site one correct?
