• OK, Filezilla went nuts and deleted a few pages such as my index.php page. is it possible to repair wordpress by running an installation but keeping the database as is?

  • Hi,

Yes,, first take the backup of your database from database management tool like PHPMyADmin..and do the fresh installation of your blog and apply the database details which you were using..

Set the permalinks and upload file settings as it was..

    Thanks,

I think you should be able to simply re-upload the missing files. Take care to make sure that wp-config.php is either still there, or that the info in your newly created wp-config.php, is identical to the backup copy of your current one. Attempting a re-install may result in an error message similar to this:

“You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.”

If it were me, I think I might just try replacing the missing files first.

Another option is to upgrade. That will avoid the “already installed” message, and get you all the files you need. Just be sure to backup themes, plugins, and pics.

‘yep. That might do it too. If you’re ready to move on from 2.8 to the 2.8.1 beta1 or beta2, that might be a nice quick solution for you as well. You still need to mind the entries in the wp-config.php file though.

I think some of the files in wp-admin got messed up too. Would a clean install work? All the themes are intact so I could back those up. I am not so sure about the plugins but I could always reinstall them.
