• Hi,

I would need a little help here. I have a website that gets about 2000 – 4000 daily visitors. Recently I noticed that site keeps expanding hosting resources; CPU, virtual and physical memory, everything jumps through the roof.

When that happens visitors get that annoying “Couldn’t allocate “some number of” kB error message.

I also noticed in the website logs that I get a lot of “GET /feed/ HTTP/1.0” requests, about 100 per minute. This is definitely something that can exhaust server resources.

Can someone tell me if this could be some kind of an attack and if you had similar experience, how did you take care of this problem???

    Thanks in advance everybody

  • I run a combination of Askimet, Stop spammers, Wagnguard, iThemes Security to keep any attacks at bay. I don’t know of an all in one solution. However, they have done the trick when setup properly.
If you are using BuddyPress Groups, the Groups are under constant attack. I have not found a way to stop them, so I had to disable it.
I am sure someone has a better solution but it has been working.

Akismet and Stop Spammers are installed and updated, they really do the job. I will try with Wangguard and iThemes Security also.

    Thanks
