Website shows 1 and 1 default page

  • Hi

    I am very new to websites so please use very, very simple language!
    I have just created a wordpress website through 1&1 but when i view it it comes up as the default site for 1&1. I have read about deleting index.html from ftp but have no idea what or how to do this
    Any help is much appreciated, this is very frustrating!

    As an update, I have managed to delete the index.html but now my website comes up saying error 403 you don’t have permission to access / on this server.

    Any ideas?

    Check and see if there is an index.html file in your site’s root directory. Some hosts put one in there as a default, and wordpress doesn’t remove it when
    it’s being installed. If you see it there, delete or rename it to allow wordpress’ index.php to work, and see if it fixes the problem (but do not alter the index.php file).

    You can delete it using via FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    If you still need help, contact your hosting provider and ask them to delete for you.

    do you know about the 403 error?

    – 403 forbidden means that your browser isn’t able to load the scripts up because your server isn’t allowing it. This is a hard one to solve. Because anything could be blocking the server.
    – Most likely this is a server permissions/ownership issue, so ask your host what’s going on
    – check your .htaccess files for anything strange.
