Website stopped displaying thumbnails

Also, I’m seeing 500 internal server errors in the loading of the maintenance mode plugin’s CSS and JavaScript files. Something is definitely broken on the server/hosting front.

My developer says wordpress has crashed and need to reinstall everything from scratch and everything will be reset.

The “500 internal server error” I’m seeing is either a problem with the webserver configuration (especially relating to PHP), or plugin/theme conflicts.

Your customer details are stored in the database, and shouldn’t be affected by this.

But, of course, I don’t know what your “developer” means by “reset”. Re-installing WordPress (or your active theme or any plugin) should not affect the database and your customer details. But if use any of the “WordPress reset” plugins, this will wipe out everything, including the database, and you’ll lose all your customer details.

Currently, I am not able to download my customers details, cannot edit or add products while site health shows good.

These sorts of issues should be logged somewhere on the server. Check your web server logs. If you don’t know how or don’t have access, contact your host.

Thanks George for your response. I checked with the developer.
The database has been affected. Some plugin created this issue which gradually corrupted all plugins. Some of the files in the database has been removed. So we have to reset the entire database again. Our current host doesn’t provide the backup.
We are in the process of migrating our website to more reliable host.
Since I am able to login I have downloaded details. We have put the website in maintenance mode to prevent anyone to login.
Can it be some spam activity?

I’m sorry that you have to lose your site and start over again.

But this statement caught my attention:

Even if you host with the best of hosts that do automated hourly backups, NEVER rely on your host alone to backup your site.

There are lots of free plugins that can back up your entire site nightly and send everything to EXTERNAL locations (eg free cloud backup services like Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, etc). It’s a set-up-once-and-forget thing, and there’s absolutely no reason to not do this (in addition to whatever backup your host may be doing).

Thanks George. I will ensure that this doesn’t happen again. Since we have launched it recently, we have not lost much and we can redo it immediately, but we must ensure robustness.
Can you please share some dos and don’ts? I will be highly obliged.
