Website takes minutes to load

Hi,
When we have just wordpress running, everything is fine.
When we have just the site running, everything is fine.

But when we have wordpress running, and then visit the site in a separate tab, both wordpress and the site grinds to a halt, taking minutes to do anything.

The good news is that our users are not impacted because they do not access wordpress via the backend. But it makes development impossible.

Work around is to do development in one browser (ie FireFox) and test the changes in a different browser (ie Chrome).

Any chance this can be fixed?
