• Hello,

Today I was trying out a new plugin, named Featured Image Thumbnail Grid, and I was trying to get this to work on one of my pages.
Google told me that I had to put in a code in the functions.php, I did that, updated the whole thing and it stopped working immediately.

If you go to my blog I get this error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/deb75638/domains/lifesaphoto.nl/public_html/wp-content/themes/pilcrow/functions.php on line 40

I’m not able to do anything anymore, if I want to go to the login page I get this error. How can I get to my functions.php and what does this error mean?

    My blog is https://www.lifesaphoto.nl

    Thanks for any help!

  • Nandasi,

Most likely there was an error in the code that you used or, what’s even more probable, you made a simple mistake while copy-paste. It’s quite hard to tell you exactly how to make it work without seeing the actual functions.php file, but around line 40 you should look for things like:

    – if you new code starts with <? or <?php then before it should be ?> tag

    – if you new code doesn’t start with aforementioned statements then it probably should be before ?> tag

However, if you’re not a php programmer and we can’t see you functions.php file getting things back to work would be a kind of trial-and-error process…
