how do i configure a server side show hide rule using the rule creator with these parameters:

    1. content displays every tuesday at 2:30pm est and is then hidden 1 week later at 2:30pm est
    2. rule repeats this way every 3 weeks
    3. rule would remain consistent each year

please let me know if that makes sense.

That shouldn’t be a problem, fatsandrew7. Pick a Tuesday-to-Tuesday time period to start with and use that as your initial event with the Tuesdays as your starting and ending dates. Then, set the rule to repeat weekly, at every 3 weeks.

the problem is that each week’s content will be different from the previous week. what i need to happen is for content-1 to show from last tuesday through this tuesday and content-2 to show from this tuesday through next tuesday etc etc.

when the new content appears, i also need the old content to disappear. can that be done with the rule creator?

Assuming three content blocks and the blocks themselves don’t change, just their rotation, do this: set up a rule for each block – repeat every three weeks – with rule 1 starting this Tuesday, rule 2 starting next Tuesday, and rule 3 starting the Tuesday after that.

    hi-

if i do that, i may as well just use the server side shortcodes right in the content — correct?

my hope was that i could create a minimal amount of rules to control the entire showing and hiding of pieces of content.

i will need approximately 40 blocks of unique content on the page that will be hidden and shown according to each week’s current date.

    does that make more sense?

It does. You will need to make a Timed Content Rule for each block of unique content and use the [timed-content-rule] shortcode. The [timed-content-server] shortcode is more appropriate for a one-off event.

i guess the challenge i am having with the rules is configuring the content to be hidden until its very specific time frame and at that time it is revealed (while all other content blocks are simultaneously hidden). then when the specific time period ends the content automatically disappears, revealing the new one.

it seems i can use the custom shortcodes to achieve what i need, but was hoping configuring rules would do the same.

    does that make sense?

Just so I’m understanding here, there are 40 blocks, each block is shown for one week only, and once the last block’s week is over, the first block should appear again to start the sequence over?

    yes, that is correct.

i will have to account for holidays and other pre-determined “off weeks”.

the general pattern dictates skipping the first week of the month as those are the “off” weeks.

Almost sounds likes, when you count various off weeks, that each block would appear roughly at the same time every year? If so, maybe try a Monthly schedule repeating every 12 months using the Repeat On The Nth Weekday Of The Month? settings? No matter how you set things up, you will need to make a separate rule for each unique block, and you can always check your dates using the Show Protected Dates/Times button.
