• Hey everyone,

on a current site setup I am having the following problem (Theme Avada is used, but this seems to be a problem of wordpress or server?!)I hope someone can help:

I create a new page and wordpress automatically creates a permalink for it. example: https://www.mywebsite.com/testpage
I can open the preview and everything’s fine. When I publish the page I cannot open it anymore:
    Not Found
The requested URL /testpage/ was not found on this server.

I suspect it could somehow cohere with the forwarding of the site:
The site is saved in a subfolder: https://www.mywebsite.com/wordpress01/
I have a forwarding on the server to this folder evertime someone opens https://www.mywebsite.com. In the settings the wordpress and website Url are saved as https://www.mywebsite.com

I have never had problems like this with other websites, although the setting was the same with subfolder forwarding and settings in WordPress.

Do I do anything wrong? Please help.

  • GO to Settings -> Permalinks and click “Save Changes.” Does that fix it?

Thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately not, no.

Check your .htaccess file, is it empty?

Can you access the page at /wordpress01/testpage?

    I cannot access /wordpress01/testpage
And here is probably the problem. I entered via ftp and couldn’t find any htaccess file! My other wordpress sites have a .htaccess file. I never changed anything about it and thought it would automatically be written by wordpress? What should I do?

If you’re missing the .htaccess file:

    1. Go to your WordPress Admin
    2. Click on Dashboard -> Updates
    3. Click on “Re-install Now”

Thank you so much for your help mate!

I did this, but nothing changed. There is still no .htaccess file. Maybe this could be a problem of the hosting? For this website it’s shared hosting so this might cause problems?

Ok, maybe a problem of mod_rewrite. I changed the permalink structure to Standard. Now I can open the page. What to do? We would of course like to have permalinks pagenames for seo reasons.

    Hello there,

For htaccess url rewrite, your server should turn on the rewrite module. So please check by doing a phpinfo in a file in your server and see if rewrite module is on or not.And if not then you should contact your hosting provider to turn on the rewrite module.

    Thanks

Ok, I contacted the hosting provider. I will let you know if this solves the problem. Thanks everyone! Great forum!
