• Hi, I have a problem with weird traffic coming to my website. Since two weeks, I am getting hundreds of page views from Norway (and sometimes Sweden) this makes no sense at all, my website is in dutch so pretty sure a Norwegian wouldn’t understand. It is always the same 8 or 9 posts that get viewed daily. Makes no sense to me at all.

Also: jetpack statistics shows an unusual high numbers of views from me, the author (already like 50 views, even before I logged in).

Of cours: first thing I thoug about was a hack. I logged out everywhere and have two factor authentication for logging in. Apart from the weird views, nothing else crazy is going on. Could it be a plugin causing this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

UPDATE: it seems that all this traffic comes from me, the author, even though i am not visiting my site (and definitely not from Norway)

The decisive factor for an analysis would be how you record the statistics. You are talking about jetpack statistics. I would therefore recommend that you ask your question in the Jetpack support forum, where more people could say why such data is collected there: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/jetpack/

Thanks, but I am pretty sure Jetpack isn’t the problem. Google Analytics and Monster Insights show the same weird traffic. It looks like all the visits from Norway and Sweden are coming from me, as an author. Could a plugin be causing this?

Nothing showing there. I have word fence activated. When I searched for this problem I saw it pop up with other users, but never a solution. It’s a mystery.

Today for example, I have 115 author views. And 114 visits from Norway, so it indeed somehow a device or plugin is loggin me in in Norway and looks at pages automatically.

Where do you see this views? In Analytics? Monster Insights also only uses Analytics, so the data is identical. It could also be spam entries in Analytics. Unfortunately, they still exist even with the new GA4. In this case, you would have to contact the Google Analytics Community, as such entries bypass the website there: https://support.google.com/analytics/community?hl=en

Yes, I see the traffic in Google Analytics. Crazy thing is that it is all direct traffic (so no referral) coming from Norway (and sometimes Sweden), so not sure how that could be blocked. Totally messes up my stats.

As already mentioned, these can be spam entries. Only Google Analytics can filter them out. This is not something that WordPress or the support forum here can help you with.

There is also an article about this here: https://kinsta.com/blog/google-analytics-spam/
