Welcome Post

I know there isn’t a way to make the welcome post a welcome page instead other than using the static page option (but then you lose all the fun stuff!) or changing the coding which I’d prefer not to do if at all possible. But, is it possible to have the welcome post keep the format of the actual post instead of smushing it all together like it’s one big paragraph? Thanks in advance for your advice.
