• The free version doesn’t take care of images but it does save time in changing the URLs during the database creation process. I’ve used this plugin multiple times and it’s worked flawlessly.

I’ve run into an issue where the webhost I’m using doesn’t like it when I try to download the GZIP compressed database but at least it gives me the raw SQL file to download as a backup. Even after working with the webhost to straighten thinks out, I still couldn’t download the compressed database file.

But since this thing changes the URLs during the migration process, that in itself is 5 stars from me.

  • Hi Jeff,

What do you mean by “The free version doesn’t take care of images”?
    What sort of “care”?

I just tried and worked great. I didn’t notice any issues with pictures.

    Did I miss something?

    Thanks for clarifying.

I’ve been under the impression that the backup of images is a Pro feature, not available to the free version. Thus, I’ve been having to manually move files from one server to another, what a time suck!

Just wanted to chime in here and confirm what Jeff stated early.

The free version does not migrate image files from one location to another, that functionality is only available in the pro version.

Having said that, the free version will still perform a URL find & replace across all image paths & URLs in your database.

As Jeff mentioned though, you’ll still need to manually move your images files from server to another.

Thanks to both for the clarification but I don’t well get: this plugin is called Migrate DB – which means that it deals with the DB and I was certainly not expecting it to migrate pictures as they are not stored in the DB.

Pictures are “content” and this is something else.
Glad to hear that the PRO version does this but I’m very happy with the DB migration and I use other tools for the content.
For instance I would recommend this excellent one: https://mover.io/
