What about the Moderator role?

bbPress does in fact have a moderator role as default, see here: https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started/before-installing/bbpress-user-roles-and-capabilities/#moderator

We use the bbPress capability of “moderate” to determine if a user can moderate a forum. That capability is applied to the moderator and keymaster roles as default.

Just confirming your plugin does not work with bbPress 2.6 Release Candidate 3, which appears to have the ability to assign mods per forum.

Disregard. Just tested with 2.6 RC3 and it appears to be working.
