I installed Gutenberg on a testing site. I also installed the Classic Editor. Both have been installed and activated. I have gone to both Pages and Posts – I have opened something up and I do not see the “New Gutenberg” editor – what I see is the same layout as before – nothing has changed. I then went to create a new post and a new page thinking maybe Gutenberg would display on a new item and again nothing – I’m seeing the same layout – I do not see this “New Gutenberg” layout. What am I missing?!
    Thank You,
    Ruth

Hi Ruth! The Classic Editor plugin will override Gutenberg – so you’ll need to deactivate this to see the Gutenberg editor.

Hi @hexagongirl – Thank You for the reply. I did discover that as I was waiting for a reply. I thought maybe they both could not be activated at the same time so I deactivated the Classic Editor and Gutenberg showed up.

I have my local wp system set up like this as well.

If you want to be able to choose the gutenberg editor or classic editor for a post/page, then check out the option in Settings/Writing for Classic Editor settings. Turn on the second option and you will be able to choose the editor you want to use for each post/page.

@almcr That is very helpful. In a video demonstration of Gutenberg and Classic Editor the person had it set up as you described. I just thought when you installed both plugins it automatically did it. I appreciate the tip on how to enable both.

    Thank You,

not sure what the status of this option will be in 5.0

this points out one of the problems with gutenberg, lack of documentation and training on how to use it. hopefully this gap will be filled in and a future search on how to do something like this will find some pertinent documentation on it.

just looked at documentation on the Classic Editor plugin and this specific problem is outlined with the optional solution. guess you need to know where to look to find your solutions to problems.

@almcr Good point about 5.0 – I appreciate the feedback.
