I am currently unable to upgrade to the lastest version of WordPress because I am using the version downloaded via my Synology NAS.

By following the instructions provided by Marius Bogdan Lixandru (Thank you Marius) at https://mariushosting.com/manually-update-a-new-version-of-wordpress-in-your-synology/ I am led to believe I will resolve this matter. However before I continue I need to know that there will be no conflict with Defender masking address (or anything else) that has been set up.

Confirmation yes or No would be appreciated.

    Regards
    John Schols

    Hi @solarschols,

I’m afraid, there hasn’t been any test performed in such an environment to state much about how the plugin would behave but from reading the link what you have provided it seems to be a basic WordPress update to the latest version.

Since the step also includes removing /wp-content directory, you might also have to take a copy of .htaccess file added by Defender under /wp-content directory. However, the file is added by Defender when “Prevent PHP execution” is enabled under Defender > Security Tweaks, so the file will also get recreated once you re-enable the “Prevent PHP execution” tweak. So you can either take a copy or re-enabling via security tweaks settings once the site is upgraded should also be fine.

Other than that, Defender plugin, in general, should be working fine with the latest version of WordPress, and such actions of updating WordPress shouldn’t be causing any issue with the Defender plugin and the mask URL settings.

I hope this helps. Have a nice day ahead.

    Best Regards,
    Nithin
