Ok, so here’s what happened and why I’m asking this question… I was changing simple things on a friend’s e-commerce site & we ended up updating the WP version. No backup was performed and this caused a break in the Shopp plugin that was installed. Shopp was not helpful, so I thought maybe I could use the Duplicator plugin to clone the site, then install the clone on my domain, then install woocommerce over top of Shopp and then remove Shopp. Then I’d like to install the Duplicator plugin on my domain and clone the site so that I can move it back to my friend’s original domain.

Any thoughts on if this might work OR if it wouldn’t work as described, does anyone think there’s a way that it could work? There are just under 200 products, with descriptions & pictures + the goal is also to go with just PayPal, as opposed to using one of those pricey credit card processors.

If this scenario is just too “out there” I should be able to export the products from my friend’s site & then import them into something like a wp esell template on my domain, but would there be any way of exporting a “copy” instead of the permanence of exporting the original product info., so that I’m not disturbing the the site to where pieces or all are gone while this is all taking place. I’m trying to make the changes as seamlessly as possible, as opposed to the original (my friend’s) site functions being crippled by my tinkering. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for taking time to read this.

    Hi xstretchx,
Thank you for the long question.
I am not sure if this question is for the shop plugin or the duplicator plugin. I have not used the shop with that plugin.
The Simple Affiliate Shop uses all standard WordPress calls and functions so if the duplicator plug is aware of them then that should not be a problem.
When it comes to converting Affiliate products to products in WooCommerce that is a very different situation.
With Affiliate products you do not normally do the shop and fulfilment yourself, this is done by the person offering the affiliate link to you. With WooCommerce you would be selling the product yourself and Simple Affiliate Shop is not designed for direct sales.

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, it was a Duplicator plugin question and I found the answer to be …. you are correct … I can’t use it exactly how I wanted to, but I was able to create a clone of the site so that I could “tinker” with it, on my own domain, so if I screwed something up, it would be no big deal. I was NOT able to just lay WooCommerce over it and miraculously access the over 150 products in Shopp (dream crushed).

The Duplicator Plugin is AWESOME … I don’t think it missed a thing and I have since found that if I could load an excel form with products from the Shopp plugin, I should be able to populate WooCommerce with the products in that excel form. Unfortunately it needs to be done manually. It’s not digging ditches, but it’s comprehensive, as for every option of each product, a separate entry is required. So, for many of the products I’ve needed to create 4 entries for each. Hope it’s worth it … meaning I hope it works when I’m done. Thanks again for your input.
    Best Regards,
    “Stretch”
