what can I password protect?

    I am using cpanel and read some articles about securing my wordpress site. One of them said to password protect the wp-admin folder through cpanel. I did this and any user who logs in gets the prompt to enter the password. I guess wp-login is using something in the admin folder? What is wordpress using in the admin folder for a subscriber user to log in?
