Okay – how long is a piece of string…

I have recently moved hosts (due to intermittent downtime with previous hosting) to Siteground… and am getting this message several times a day when logged in (as I often am)

    White Screen with the following
    Gateway Time-out
The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application.

Contacted hosting several times and they cannot see what the problem is in error logs and no one else is experiencing it… (according to them)

    any suggestions?

    – Please check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message and see why it’s failing. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

Hosting provider said the only error was on my IP no other details… I have asked them to provide further information…

    did they fix it?

Did this fixing of IP help?

Just updating an old post as spotted a typo…

    and when clicking ‘update’
    Gateway Time-out

The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application.

refresh browser and not save – save again and it works..

    Same problem with different browsers

    Have you tried:
    – Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches. Also, any op cache or content network cache, as well as Cloudflare, clear those caches.
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
resetting the plugins folder by FTP. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
    – switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Sixteen, etc.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
    – If all the above steps do not resolve the issue, then try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.
Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

Thanks Tara I will look into those suggestions…

I have a fairly busy site with many posts and quite a few daily visitors so I will need to look into when is the best time to do things etc….

I will provide feedback once checked…

The problem has seemingly stopped after disabling an ‘optimizing’ plugin. Although I have stopped updating to the extent I was.
