What do I replace in example Page of Posts example code?

    Hello. New to WordPress. I promise I have read, and read, but I can’t seem to find the answer to this simple question:

    I want to create a Page of Posts, and I used the example code found here.

    Where in the code do I put “Events” like they say in the description? (My category will have adifferent name.)

    I see it says to “assign the Custom Field “category” with a value of “Events” to the Page.” But I’m not exactly sure where that is, or if it’s in multiple locations within the code.

    I have the page working, just not showing the posts I want.

    1. Go into a Post.
    2. Scroll down to the bottom.
    3. Under the Custom Field area, press enter new.
    4. Enter “category” for Name and “Events” (or whatever you want) for Value.
    5. Press the white update button.
    6. Press the blue update button on the top right.

    I’m not sure if what I’m doing is correct, but here’s a better description.

    I have a Q&A site and I used Instant Q&A premium theme from themeforest. It uses WP to have questions and answers. I want to have a seperate blog as well. So, I created a new page and inserted the code from the Page of Posts codex. Now, I want to modify that code so that it shows only the category “Blog” on that page. Then, I will exclude “Blog” from the front page and the category list, and create a seperate tab in the header to reach my “Blog”.

    I believe that is what the “Page of Posts” coding if for. I want to know where in the “Page of Posts” coding in need to insert “Blog” in order to show only the “Blog” category.

    i understand what your talking about after you put the template page of posts, the event and value is NOT in the code it is in the page editor. I have a picture here https://i51.tinypic.com/28lf0wx.jpg

    Simply in the “name” part always write category, then in “value” you put in the category of the posts you want to show on the page such as blog. Then it will only display posts with that category.

    Yes! Thank you! It’s so simple…

    I’m so excited about this WP thing. The community aspect is so helpful.

    Now I just need to get it to show up where I want to on my “Blog” page, and exclude it from the other areas…

    Your Welcome! yeah it was pretty simple luckly i have a few people around who told me about that, i had no idea either. I like the community too.
