• I’m trying to understand what the user/author levels mean. Is this documented somewhere ? I searched the Wiki and forums without much success. Thanks for any pointers.

  • From the readme:
    User Levels:
    0 – new user: can’t post.
1 – user: can post & edit/delete their own posts.
3 & higher – admin: can post, edit/delete other people’s posts, and change the options.
Any user whose level is higher than 1, can edit/delete the posts and change the level of users whose level is inferior. Example: a level 2 user is not an admin, but can edit the posts of level 1 users, and up the level of a new user from 0 to 1.
There’s a bit more in there too.

    Thanks !!!
Perhaps I should abandon the Wiki site in favor of the allmighty Readme ??

Almighty wiki grows with every little request like the one you just made. ??
Someday, maybe, I can hope to post something on it. ??

I was wondering, and what the difference was between an author and a user, and ow to increase a user’s levels.

Only been running WP for a ew days, but it’s so much easier that Movable Type, I got fed up tryingto configure the templates in that. I can do it, but I want something I can run ‘out of the box’ quicker than MT.

There is no substantial difference, except users cannot post to the blog. You can change user levels through the Users admin page in WordPress (in 1.5, Users > Authors and Users). Click Promote to move a user to author status, and the + and – either side of their level # to change the level.

The old Wiki has already been abandoned. The new documentation Wiki (Codex) has the User Level list right here: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/User_Levels
