What does ‘powered by wordpress’ mean on some sites?

  • I’ve seen ‘powered by wordpress’ at the bottom of some websites that don’t look like wordpress blogs. Are they using the wordpress platform in some way or being hosted? If so, do they get an advantage (all other things being equal) when it comes to being indexed by search engines – because – they are ‘powered by wordpress’?

    Its just a line of text in the footer of the theme. There is no SEO advantage in having it, but it waves the flag for WordPress.

    What if you want to use wordpress blogging architecture for an out and out sales page.

    All things being equal (content etc etc) is wordpress more SEO friendly than an identical non-wordpress blog/sales page?

    There are features built into WP that help with SEO, plus there are plugins, such as all-in-one-seo-pack.

    But, does this make it superior in SEO terms to other web pages/blogs with exactly the same SEO features?

    I suppose what I am asking is if wordpress is inherently more SEO friendly because it is wordpress?

    No, but it does tend to make it a lot easier.

    I believe it does make it easier as all the SEO tasks are built into the plugin. If you had to do the same building a site with Dreamweaver for example you would have to generally apply the SEO data to each page or build a template.
