What does this plug in do exactly?

  • The only thing this plugin is advertised to do is to sync every member’s Paid Memberships Pro level with their Patreon pledge level. The problem is that the plugin’s control panel consists of a single checkbox, which does nothing whether it’s checked or not.

    What the hell does this plugin even do? Dear developer, I just want you to know that at this point, I am beyond desperate to have an automatic privilege syncing mechanism between my Patreon and WP site. If you could help me with that, I’d donate the price of a goddamn license!

    Edit: I am confused at this point. I will need to experiment further to confirm or deny my current hypothesis.

    The following test was was done with the PMP shortcodes that hide or display content depending on the level of the user that’s logged in. These levels are created by PBS and can be manually changed for each user by the admin.

    The user I first tested the plugin on hadn’t been created by Patreon. It had existed long before that and simply subscribing to my Patreon page using a Patreon account with the same email address did not automatically assign it any Patreon-related membership level on my WP site. However, upon deleting the user then logging in via the Patreon login button, the user account automatically generated by Patreon in the process had access to the restricted PMP content. When I checked, I was surprised that the user account’s membership level is set to none. How does PMP then know that it’s a Patreon account? I can verify that the PMP restriction codes are otherwise working properly and I can’t view the restricted content while logged out or on my non-Patreon-related admin account.

    My guess is that because the “override PMP membership level” box is checked in Patreon Memberships’ settings, it can detect patrons and force them to get all PMP privileges without assigning them a membership level.

    Sounds bogus, but I can’t really come up with anything else and it might be some time before I could experiment on a bigger scale.
