What exactly does Subscribe2 do?

    Well in widgets I have the option of adding subcribe2 widget into my sidebar.

    I have added that, and people have entered their e-mail address to subscribe to my blog.

    However, when I make a new post they do not receive any kind of notification. So I’m confused as to what the subcribe2 widget does, does it just collect e-mail address for me to send out manual notifications or something?
